Spruce Knob, at 4,865 feet, is the highest peak in WV. The upper portions of this mountain and its high elevation ridges are covered in dense red spruce forests. The wet, cool to cold boreal highland climate is similar to that of Canada. Located on the Allegheny front, it is the highest point in the Chesapeake watershed. Spruce Knob Lake is located on the west side of Spuce Knob at an elevation of 3,840 feet. This 25 acre manmade lake is stocked with trout and small mouth bass and is a favorite fishing spot.
