Allegheny Front and Eastern Continental Divide

Kent Mason, Photographer / Conservationist

The Allegheny Front is the primary east facing escarpment (steep slope or long cliff) of both Dolly Sods and Bear Rocks and this is also the Eastern Continental Divide. All water on the east side of this "rim" as I often refer to it, flows into the Atlantic Ocean where as all water on the west side of this divide eventually flows into the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and the Gulf of Mexico. The elevation varies from 3,900 feet to about 4,700 feet in the 18 miles I covered to produce this gallery of WV images.
