Beartown is an area of large unusual rock formations located on the eastern side of the summit of Droop Mountain in central WV. Because of its uniqueness, Beartown was aquired by The Nature Conservancy in 1970 and later transferred to WV to be a State Park. The 110 acre park consists of a hiking trail with boardwalks through the deep crevasses, rock overhangs, and other unusual rock formations. The criss-cross pattern of the crevasses give the appearance of streets. Snow and ice often are found in the deeper crevasses in late spring and early summer. This gallery is a visual tour of Beartown.
