Cheat Canyon

Kent Mason, Photographer / Conservationist

The Cheat River is the longest undammed river in the Allegheny mountains. As the river drops from it's headwaters of Cheat mtn, it plunges into a 10.5 mile deep gorge which contain class IV and V rapids. The heavily forested canyon walls rise up as high as 1,200 feet from the river bed to the canyon rim. The cheat canyon is a very popular whitewater rafting and kayaking destination. This gallery is a visual tour of the canyon from a rafting/kayaking perspective during moderate water flow and then views of the gorge at low water.
